I was in my room praying on Monday. I sat on the floor because I just felt that was where I needed to pray. On the walls in front of me are prayers for people, pictures of people I pray for, a sheet for recording answered prayer. I sat and prayed…but this prayer was a bit different. It was one of those tight-eyed, clenched fist, fervent prayers that you seem to get lost in.
When I was done, I opened my eyes and looked up. There over my head on the wall was a picture frame and inside the frame was a part of a verse. Not even the whole verse, just part of it. It says:
“Look at the nations and watch; be utterly amazed.” Habakkuk 1:5
This has been in the room since my husband fixed up this spare room for me to use as a prayer closet and blogging office, but I never really took note of it any more than the others. I didn’t choose to hang it there because it meant anything special to me…I just liked the verse.
And this day, there it was…standing out! I was stuck on the words “watch” and “be amazed”. I reached into the basket I keep there on the floor with journaling supplies and index cards…you never know when God has you pray for someone or something so, I like to be prepared. I grabbed an index card and wrote it down. I wasn’t sure why I felt led to do it but I did.
I grabbed my things and headed to the living room. I placed the card down on the coffee table with my water and then went about my business. I sat down later and there was that card in front of me. I felt like God was leading me to go further. So I listened.
Now, I like to read verses in context so I opened my Bible up to Habakkuk 1:1 and wanted to start there. And oh….
Now I have to tell you…since about July of 2016 I have been praying about issues that have been on my heart. I have seen violence and protesting and rioting going on in greater numbers. I have seen division among people..including Christians. I see it on social media every day…Christians! It was so bad that I had to get off Facebook for two weeks just to keep my peace. I have seen crime soar in places. Children being senselessly gunned down. Terrorist attacks are happening with more frequency and it only looks to get worse. People trying to stifle the free speech of Christians and labeling them as intolerant just because they have different opinions.
It has been weighing heavily on me in ways I cannot describe. Many times my prayers were “Lord, how long are we going to have to deal with this? How long is wrong going to be right and right going to be wrong in this country? How long are evil people going to keep trying to kill us?” I have spent months being downtrodden over this nation. I am talking a dark night of the soul kind of downtrodden. I felt a palpable shift in the spiritual temperature of the country over the past year, but more specifically over the past seven months and it has grieved my spirit. I cried out for seven months!I have spent months being downtrodden over this nation. I am talking a dark night of the soul kind… Click To Tweet
He cried out to God:
“Oh Lord, how long shall I cry, and You will not hear? Even cry out to You, “Violence!” And You will not save. Why do You show me iniquity and cause me to see trouble? For plundering and violence are before me, there is strife, and contention arises. Therefore the law is powerless, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous. Therefore, perverse judgment proceeds.” Habakkuk 1:1-4
This was like every prayer I have prayed for months!! It was as though Habakkuk was speaking for me!
Then God says to Habakkuk:
“Look among the nations and watch –Be utterly astounded! For I will do a work in your days which you would not believe, though it were told you.” Habakkuk 1:5
Now for the sake of time and space, I am not going to go through this chapter verse for verse. You can read it on your own and I highly suggest you do. And I highly suggest you take in each and every verse and let God speak to you. But here it talks about a people from afar who want to see evil come upon the people and “commit offenses and ascribe them to their god.”
Then He had me continue into chapter 2 where He showed me something that floored me. Habakkuk says:
“I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart……” Habakkuk 2:1 (NKJV)
After EVERYTHING God reveals in chapter one, Habakkuk takes the stand of a watchman. A rampart is a defensive wall. He is saying, “I will be a watchman on the wall”……what??? Just at the beginning of the month God spoke to my heart in prayer (and I wrote a post about it here) that He wanted to raise up watchmen to pray and intercede! This is a quote from that blog post I wrote almost 3 weeks ago:
“He is doing a work in this nation. He is in control! But He needs watchmen to do battle on our knees!!! Not on Facebook, not in protests, not in court houses….but in HIS house and in our house..in our war rooms!! He needs people who will see the truth about what the enemy is doing in our country and around the world and call the Church to battle!!”
He then led me to something I might have ordinarily missed. In speaking to Habakkuk, the Lord says:
“Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie.” Habakkuk 2:3
God was saying that this vision was not for Habakkuk’s time. It was for a later time..a time of the end. Not only that, God is saying we would be amazed by it even though it was told to us! In other words…it was prophesied in His Word!
“For I will do a work in your days which you would not believe, though it were told you.” Habakkuk 1:5
And at the end it will speak…in other words, people will begin to take note of it. People will start to attend to that vision. I never go to Habakkuk!! It is one of those books I tend to just miss along the way most times. I don’t recall ever seeing these verses before my husband hung that verse up!!
Here in Habakkuk 1 God is basically showing us something that could have been written in the headline of today’s paper and He specifically tells Habakkuk it was for a later time.Click To Tweet
God is going to do amazing things. But, I do want to point out here though that just because God says we will be amazed does not mean it will be a good thing for the world. My husband and I discussed this prior to me sharing this post and he used the words “shock and awe”. We are in agreement, God is saying He is going to do something astounding but we cannot assume it will be good for the world. It may be. It may not be. We all know that a time of tribulation is coming on the world.
We are closer to the time of Jesus’ return and He is calling us, the Church, to stop fighting, stop debating, stop arguing politics and get on our knees!! We are called to be IN the world and not OF it. We cannot spend our time worrying about the things of this world.
We are called to pray for our leaders…not post about them on Facebook!
We are called to pray for our brothers and sisters and not wage wars of words with them! We are called to witness! We are called to be salt and light. And we are called to pray!! God is about to move…I feel it! Not just in the United States but in Israel and throughout the world! We are called to pray for our leaders...not post about them on Facebook! #prayer Click To Tweet
I really feel that God has placed this prayer burden on me for a reason and He is showing me these things for a reason. He is raising up prayer warriors that will stand for righteousness in this country! Raising up people who will pray for right to be right and wrong to be wrong again!!
He is raising up a Church that is not lukewarm, sitting at home waiting for things to happen! God wants a Church on fire and united and joined in prayer!!
He wants people less concerned about who they are baking wedding cakes for and more concerned with where the souls of those people would go if they died on the way to the bakery!!
He wants cliques in Christian circles to stop and for us to embrace ALL our brothers and sisters in Christ! He wants us to stop being offended by everyone and everything!! He wants intercessors!! He doesn’t want us to be distracted by arguments and debate! He wants us joined together as brothers and sisters, now more than ever!!
Please…read Habakkuk chapters 1 and 2 and pray for God to speak to you.
I am going to be creating a group on Facebook for intercessors to gather together in prayer! If you would like to be added, please comment below and I will reply when it is ready and provide you with the link.I am going to be creating a group on FB for intercessors to gather together in prayer! #prayerwarrior Click To Tweet
It is time for brothers and sisters to join together and stand united in prayer instead of divided in politics!! God says to watch and be astounded….but we are to watch on the wall!!
