As a Messianic Jew, I often find myself walking between worlds; rooted in the deep heritage of my Jewish ancestors while living out the fulfillment of that heritage through Yeshua. There are moments when something physical, something small and simple, brings all those layers together. For me, that moment came when I held a tiny vial of Temple Mount soil in my hand.
At first glance, the Temple Mount Soil Necklace is a beautiful piece of jewelry; refined, thoughtfully designed, and spiritually resonant. The vial, cradled in a gold or silver clasp, rests on a chain that’s simple enough for everyday wear but elegant enough to invite conversation. It’s lovely. But it’s what’s inside that makes it powerful: real soil from the holiest ground in Judaism, and a site sacred to Christianity as well.

How the Soil Came About
Back in 1999, a massive, unauthorized construction project took place on the Temple Mount. The Islamic Waqf removed approximately 9,000 tons of earth while creating an underground mosque. This was done without archaeological supervision, in violation of Israeli law and international heritage protections.
The soil, rich with artifacts from the First and Second Temple periods, was dumped in the Kidron Valley and elsewhere around Jerusalem. It was, to put it plainly, an archaeological disaster.

But out of that act of destruction, something redemptive was born. In 2004, Israeli archaeologists Dr. Gabriel Barkay and Zachi Dvira founded the Temple Mount Sifting Project.
They obtained permission to recover and sift through the displaced soil. What began as an emergency rescue turned into one of the largest community archaeology projects in the world. With the help of over 200,000 volunteers, they’ve sifted through thousands of tons of debris and uncovered more than half a million artifacts: pottery shards, coins, tile fragments, and more…some dating back nearly 3,000 years.
This isn’t just about finding relics. It’s about reclaiming memory. It’s about telling the story of a sacred place whose voice was almost silenced.
Why I Wear Mine
When I wear this necklace, it’s not about fashion. It’s about identity. It’s about holding a piece of my people’s story close to my heart…literally.
This is the same soil that witnessed Solomon’s Temple and the Ark of the Covenant. The same ground where priests once walked, where prayers rose in smoke, and where the Shekhinah, the manifest presence of God, dwelt. It’s where Yeshua stood, taught, healed, and wept. This isn’t symbolic soil. It’s the actual earth where heaven touched earth.
When I hold the vial during prayer or study, I’m reminded that my faith is not an idea. It’s a history. A place. A people. A covenant.

Not Just for Me – For the Future
This necklace is more than a keepsake, it’s a legacy. I think about my children, my grandchildren. One day, I hope to pass it on…not just as a piece of jewelry, but as a reminder: You are part of a sacred story. Don’t forget who you are.
And every purchase helps keep that story alive. Proceeds go directly to fund the ongoing work of the Temple Mount Sifting Project. So wearing this necklace means I’m not only remembering the past, I’m helping preserve it for the future.
