Scripture Writing and Reading Plans & How to Start in 2025

Many people use Scripture reading plans but have you thought about incorporating Scripture writing into your study?

Below you will find some amazing, free Scripture Writing Plans you can use right now! They delve into topics that are important to us as believers and some that we may struggle with!

What is Scripture Writing?

At its core, Scripture writing involves the intentional act of physically writing out passages of Scripture by hand. This practice goes beyond simply reading or listening to the Word; it involves a deliberate engagement with the text through the act of writing.

When we use our senses to engage in the Word, it helps us to remember the verse or verses more clearly and prevents our minds from drifting off. For instance, when we read a verse out loud, we engage both our sense of speech and hearing. So we are more “tuned in” to it. I actually go into this more in my video on Menopause and Brain Fog which I will post below. It doesn’t matter if you are 60 or 26, these tips can be helpful and it is one reason why Scripture writing does work!

By writing out verses or passages, individuals are encouraged to slow down, meditate on the words, and internalize their meanings.

Scripture writing is not just about putting pen to paper; it’s about opening our hearts and minds to the transformative power of God’s Word. It’s a practice that invites us to slow down, listen, and allow the Scriptures to speak to us in profound and meaningful ways.

Why Do Scripture Writing?

Here are 5 reasons why Scripture writing would benefit you as a believer!

  1. Deepens Understanding: Writing out Scripture allows for a deeper engagement with the Word, helping you to grasp its meaning and significance on a personal level.
  2. Encourages Reflection: By slowing down to write out verses, you are prompted to reflect on the message and apply it to your own life, helping your own spiritual growth and insight.
  3. Promotes Memorization: The act of writing out Scripture can aid in memorization, making it easier to recall and apply God’s Word in various situations.
  4. Enhances Focus and Concentration: Scripture writing encourages mindfulness and attentiveness, as mentioned earlier, providing a peaceful and focused environment for meditation and prayer.
  5. Strengthens Spiritual Connection: Engaging with Scripture through writing fosters a deeper spiritual connection with God, allowing you to draw closer to Him and experience His presence in your life. It can help be that “conversation starter” you may need to sit and talk to your Heavenly Father if you have found it difficult to know what to say!

Our Monthly Scripture Writing and Reading Plans

So now that you know what Scripture writing is, let’s get you started!

Below you will find a monthly download plus you can get the previous year’s worth of Scripture Writing/Scripture Reading Plans. Each month, just read the verse for that day, write it out (or just read it if you are only reading) and meditate on it. Take at least 10 minutes to do this.

If you want to memorize that verse, that is totally up to you!

Pray and ask the Lord to show you anything He wants to reveal to you in that Scripture.

It is that simple!

If you find you are struggling in a certain area, you are welcome to join us for our Spiritual Disciplines group. You can find more info here. We do not have a set meeting time. It is an ongoing discussion we have with each other as we go through whichever book we are working on and it is SO helpful for developing spiritual traits like patience and humility and so on.

We also have a large list of resources for Christian women on our Resources page.
