Blogging for Jesus – Increasing Blog Traffic

When you are blogging for Jesus and have a writing ministry, you spend a great amount of time studying the Word, praying, researching and writing your posts! You want to help encourage others and share your personal experiences with them so that they know they are not alone in the struggles of life.

You write these beautifully crafted posts and then you realize, it is not getting in front of people.

I am going to share with you ways you can increase your traffic TODAY and get your message in front of the people who are looking for it!

Increasing Blog Traffic – Making Your Posts Shareable

I see this more times than you would expect. In fact it just happened today! I wanted to share a post and there was not a share button in sight!

Many blogs have no way for others to share their content. For a blog to get traffic apart from organic searches, people have to share it!

If you do not provide share buttons on your post, you are robbing yourself of a lot of traffic.

Shareaholic or Social Warfare are great (and free) ways to get these sharing buttons on your site. You don’t even have to have accounts with the social media sites to use them!

In fact, that is a big mistake people make; they only use share buttons for the platforms that they have accounts for. It is not about YOUR account, it is what accounts your reader might have!

Click to Tweet or other versions available on Shareaholic are a great way to get your blog out on Twitter. You just find a great line from your post that you think would make an awesome tweet and click on the Click to Tweet icon and add it! It’s that simple!

I always look for click to tweet buttons first when I visit a site I enjoy! I often don’t find them!

People will generally not go out of their way trying to find a way to share your post so make it easy for them to do it! Your traffic will go up!

Increasing Blog Traffic – Make Use of Pinterest

Many people do not understand Pinterest so they do not use it effectively.

Pinterest is not a social media platform. It is a visual search engine. It is where people go when they are looking for something in particular.

If you have ever used Pinterest to look for home decor or a new hairstyle, you will understand this!

It is similar to Google except instead of links to a page that has content you are looking for, Pinterest provides images and a way to save those images to look at later AND to share with others!

In fact sharing is the cornerstone of Pinterest! People love to repin content they find that they believe would benefit others.

When you are blogging for Jesus you have the opportunity to reach a VERY large audience! Let’s face it, people go through a LOT in their day to day life and they are searching for ways to draw closer to God and to increase their faith!

Your pins could be one of the most effective ways to bring traffic to your site!

To this day, it is still my number one source of traffic!

One way to maximize your use of Pinterest is to use Tailwind!

Tailwind has amazing scheduling tools, as well as a Smart Loop feature and Tribes that will help you connect with others in your niche so you can share each other’s content! It has been a HUGE help in boosting my traffic and you can try it out before spending a penny!

I have another post about Pinterest that you can check out for more info.

If you want to find some great training on Pinterest (as well as other promotional tools listed in this post), visit Girl Bosses Rock and check out the courses they have available. When you sign up for their membership using the code 8OFF you will save $8.00!

Not only does Girl Bosses Rock have amazing courses, but there are so many other benefits. These are:

  • Access to the Membership Facebook Group
  • Weekly Zoom calls on a variety of topics
  • A blog audit
  • and more….

Siteground Web Hosting

Girl Bosses Rock made a huge difference in my blogging traffic.

To show how effective the training is, here is a screen shot of my analytics from July 2018, the first full month after I started blogging. I had a large bounce rate (bounce rate is the percentage of people who visit your site who ‘bounce’ off after visiting one page) so people weren’t really visiting my other pages.

My Google Analytics Jul 2018
I joined the Girl Bosses Rock membership in July and even before my site audit (which was August) and prior to even finishing all the courses, I started to see a big difference in my analytics.

My Google Analytics Aug 2018
For one, my bounce rate went down dramatically. I learned how to link internally to encourage people to visit other pages on my site. They didn’t know those posts were there if I didn’t tell them! That is demonstrated in the pages per session increase.

And I learned how to promote my site on Pinterest, which increased the number of users.

You have a message and a story people want to hear! They just need to know you are out there!

I had my blog audit and made significant changes to my SEO and my Pinterest pinning strategy because of it. My 30 day stats this past month show the growth that has happened since then.

My Google Analytics Feb-Mar 2018
This is still a new blog (less than a year old) so it still has some growing to do! But this training has made a HUGE difference in my traffic and my bounce rate (which you can see decreased dramatically again) so I wanted to share that with you.

There are free courses you can take through Girl Bosses Rock so I highly recommend it!!

Increasing Blog Traffic – SEO

One of the ways you can increase traffic to your site is to make sure you post is formatted for SEO!

This is a tough one for those of us blogging for Jesus because we tend to write what God puts on our heart and not specifically for SEO! We find it difficult to reach that happy medium between creativity and actually getting it in front of people!

Most people tend to think they can select a keyword and that’s all that is needed! But there is much more that goes into SEO than just keywords.

In fact, in 2019 formatting of posts (using blocks, headers, internal links, etc.) will all weigh in more heavily with Google, hence Gutenberg!

Gutenberg helps with post formatting in a way that Google bots will be able to crawl more effectively and source out the topic of your post.

Remember, it is not a person crawling sites; it is bots! So this block formatting makes it easier for those bots to do their job and scan your post to find out what your post is about and what it is about your post that should make it rank higher than others!

So I would embrace Gutenberg, learn as much as you can, and take some courses in SEO to understand it better. There is a free one you can link to at Girl Bosses Rock.

Blogging for Jesus – Blogging for One

We who are in the Christian blogging world often say we write for an audience of one! That is very true!

However, we ARE in ministry! The more people we can help, encourage, uplift, and reach for Christ the better!

It should not be a comparison game between us and other bloggers but there is nothing wrong with wanting to help as many people as you can reach! There is no shame in wanting your message and your story to get in front of as many people as it can! We are doing it for the Kingdom, not for ourselves!

So maximizing your traffic is a great way to reach the world (and here on the internet, we DO have a global reach) with the Gospel!

My name is Diane and I am a wife and mom, a Jewish believer in Yeshua (Jesus) and yes, a blogger. I live in BEAUTIFUL Northwestern Connecticut and when I am not blogging, you will find me spending time with my husband and kiddos…or up in my craft room designing custom tumblers, making reading pillows or quilting! I am also an avid amateur genealogist and love researching my family history!

  • Great tips! I resisted Pinterest for the longest time, but the first week I used it to drive traffic to my blog, it doubled my traffic! And I’m no expert either. So that sold me, and I’ve loved using it ever since. Thanks for the link to the free SEO course. That’s the one area where I feel completely clueless.

    • I am so glad you found it helpful! The free course will definitely be a big help to you!! I am glad you’ll be doing it!!
