Are you tired of feeling like you’re stuck in a never-ending storm, with waves of anxiety, stress, and uncertainty crashing against you? You’re not alone. As believers, we know that God promises us peace, but how do we actually experience it right smack dab in the middle of life’s challenges? Join me as we explore how to have the peace of God, even when the world around us seems to be falling apart.
Understanding the Source of Peace
In Philippians 4:6-7, Paul writes,
This passage highlights the importance of trusting in God’s sovereignty and goodness, even when we don’t understand what’s happening around us or why. When we bring our worries and fears to God, He promises to give us a peace that is beyond anything we can understand.
By focusing our attention on what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable (Philippians 4:8), we have the ability to alter our viewpoint from the storm to God.
By intentionally directing our thoughts towards God’s assurances and unwavering affection for us, we can experience His peace in the midst of even the most challenging situations.
Displaying Supernatural Peace
When we welcome in that peace in the middle of chaos, it serves as a powerful testimony of our faith.
In a world that’s full of worry and fear seemingly now more than ever, our peace can be a light of hope to those around us. As we show the peace of God, when we seem unshakable in the middle of trials, we open ourselves up to opportunities for those meaningful conversations about our faith.
People may ask us how we’re able to remain calm in the middle of all we are going through, and we can point them to the source of our peace: God.
How to Have the Peace of God During Life’s Challenges
One of the biggest misconceptions about experiencing peace is that it means the absence of problems. Many times people pray to have their trials taken from them, and that is fine but often they say their prayers went unanswered when the trial remained. But the truth is, peace from God is not the absence of difficulties, but the presence of God in the midst of them.
When Jesus fell asleep in the boat during a storm, the storm was STILL all around Him. Yet despite the raging storm, Jesus remained calm and displayed unwavering faith as He peacefully slept in the boat.
We can experience that peace even when we’re facing storms in various areas of our lives. In fact, it’s often in the midst of those storms that we most need to trust in God’s sovereignty and goodness.
Practical Strategies for Trusting God
So, how do we actually trust God and experience His peace in our daily lives when we are going through great difficulty? Here are a few practical strategies:
- Prayer: Take your worries and fears to God, and ask for His peace. Thank Him for His sovereignty and goodness, even when you don’t understand what’s happening. Gratitude is so key here because we cannot lose sight of our blessings when we are feeling fear. We need to keep focusing on the goodness of God and all He has done for us.
- Surrender: Let go of your need to control the situation, and trust that God is working everything out for your good.
- Scripture: Reflect upon scriptures such as Philippians 4:6-7, seeking the Holy Spirit’s guidance in uncovering the essence of those verses and to bring peace to your heart. Journal your thoughts and feelings.
In Conclusion
Finding inner peace in the midst of life’s storms requires us to trust in God’s sovereignty and goodness. When we do, He promises to give us a peace that surpasses all understanding.
And remember, peace from God is not the absence of difficulties, but the presence of God in the boat with you among the waves. Take a step of faith today, and trust that God is working everything out for your good.
