The Four Cups
The four cups of Passover are a picture of God’s deliverance, not only of the children of Israel but of all believers through faith in Yeshua (Jesus)! In the audio, I also discuss where in the seder the Lord’s Supper was born!
The Cup of Sanctification
“Say therefore to the people of Israel, ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians…” (ESV)
Jesus our Messiah sanctifies us and sets us apart with His blood shed on the cross for our sins.
1 Corinthians 1:30
“And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption…” (ESV)
The Cup of Deliverance
“…and I will deliver you from slavery to them…” (ESV)
While the nation of Israel were slaves in Egypt, we too experience freedom from slavery as Jesus delivers us from slavery to sin and death!
“For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.” (ESV)
The Cup of Redemption
“…and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great acts of judgment.” (ESV)
We were redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, once and for all! His blood was shed on the cross as a final sacrifice for sins. His arms outstretched on a tree, He gave Himself up for us to redeem us, save us and sanctify us!
“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”—(ESV)
The Cup of Hallel (Praise or Acceptance)
“I will take you to be my people, and I will be your God, and you shall know that I am the Lord your God, who has brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.” (ESV)
This is the cup Yeshua says in Matthew 26:29
“I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” (ESV)
This is the cup that has us look forward to our life everlasting in the Kingdom of the Father! This is our hope and our praise to the glory of God!
Passover is a time to reflect on God’s plan for mankind since the foundations of the earth and this final cup represents the time we are with Him in our eternal home!
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (ESV)
