  1. I have a few questions:
    1. Can you start the dishwasher or do dishes by hand during Sabbath?
    2. I am attending a Woman’s retreat 3 and a half hours away and people are riding with me. It gets over at 11 am on the Sabbath. Can I drive back home or do I need to stay at the hotel until sunset? As this would also require me to check out of the hotel and take luggage to my car.
    3. My family booked a vacation from Saturday to another Saturday. In order to comply with the Sabbath, should I not attend? Not sure how to proceed God’s commandments are His laws which I am zealous in obeying them. Any help would be great. Thank you for all the information you have on this site.

    1. Great questions! Observing Shabbat looks different for different people—Orthodox Jews follow strict halakhic rules from the Talmud, while Reform Jews have a more flexible approach. Christians exploring Shabbat may also observe it differently since the Bible doesn’t specifically prohibit things like driving (since that was not a thing) or washing dishes—that comes from Jewish tradition (Talmud).

1️⃣ Dishes on Shabbat – Some avoid dishwashers because of electricity, but handwashing with cold/lukewarm water is often okay, especially if needed for meals.

2️⃣ Driving Home – Traditional Jews wouldn’t drive on Shabbat, but some Messianic believers and Christians observing Shabbat may make exceptions for special circumstances, like a retreat. If you do drive, keep a restful and worshipful mindset.

3️⃣ Vacation Timing – If travel on Shabbat is a concern, consider adjusting plans or finding restful ways to honor the day. Some arrive early or set aside quiet time.

Shabbat is about rest, joy, and connection with God. Find what works for your faith journey! If you attend a synagogue I would advise getting guidance from the Rabbi (and also, feel free to reach out to a Messianic Synagogue even if you do not attend) and ask to speak to the Rabbi and get some guidance. Blessings! 😊✨
