In the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh), the word often translated as “faithfulness” is emunah (אֱמוּנָה). It is derived from the root aman (אָמַן), which means to support, confirm, or be steadfast. Emunah is closely related to the idea of truth or reliability—something that is firm and trustworthy.
When used to describe God, it emphasizes His unwavering commitment to His promises and His people. For example, in Deuteronomy 7:9, we read:
“Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His faithfulness to a thousand generations for those who love Him and keep His commandments;”

In the New Testament, the Greek word for faithfulness is pistis (πίστις), which can also be translated as faith. However, in the context of faithfulness, it conveys a sense of trustworthiness and reliability, both in God’s nature and in the expected response of believers.

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of realities not seen.”

Marriage, according to the Bible, is a covenant relationship that mirrors God’s covenant with His people, requiring steadfast loyalty, love, and devotion.

“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
