In this article on how to pray powerful War Room prayers, I am going to show you what the Bible says about prayer and how you can develop an effective war room strategy that will allow you to pray with confidence with this powerful weapon the Lord has given us!
So let’s start exploring the true power of prayer and get to fighting this battle God’s way!
Powerful War Room Prayers – The Concept of Setting a Watchman
A watchman in the Bible was someone whose job was to guard the city or some sort of encampment and to sound an alarm when they saw an enemy approaching.
Most times they stood guard on the city walls or on high hills so they could see all around the area and avoid a sneak attack.
The Hebrew word for ‘watchman’ is tsaphah and it means, to keep watch, spy, observe, await.
It is to expectantly keep watch for something and observe your surroundings.
An example of a watchman in the Bible would be in 2 Kings 9:17:
Now the watchman stationed on the tower in Jezreel saw Jehu’s troop approaching and said, “I am seeing a troop.” Then Joram said, “Take a horseman and dispatch him to meet them, and let him ask: ‘Is it peace?’”
TLV
Another example of a watchman would be 1 Samuel 14:16:
Now Saul’s watchmen in Gibeah of Benjamin saw the throng scattering away in every direction.

So now that you know what a watchman is, how do YOU set one? Well, you report to your war room for training!
What is a War Room?
A War Room is a place, a prayer room or closet, a corner of a room, anywhere really where you can go to be with the Lord in prayer and intercession for others and do battle against the enemy!
In 2015, the movie War Room by the Kendrick brothers was released and was a huge hit!
In the movie, a woman, Elizabeth, who appeared to have it all in life (played by Priscilla Shirer) was going through marital difficulties (by difficulties, I mean her husband was on the verge of cheating and was just, well…he was a jerk to her).
Elizabeth is a realtor and she goes to visit a new client, Miss Clara, who wants to try to sell her home.
In the process of touring the home, Elizabeth is introduced to Miss Clara’s closet; a place she calls The War Room.
In this literal closet, Miss Clara does battle with the enemy on a massive scale!!
She says “In order to stand up and fight the enemy, you need to get on your knees and pray.”
She volunteers to give Elizabeth the incredible gift of a mentor and teaches her the power of war room prayers and how to see prayer as a battle in the spirit realm.
I won’t give away the movie but I highly recommend you see it if you have not already.
The point here is, Miss Clara was 100% right. In order to stand against the enemy, you need to get on your knees and do battle in prayer!
Now, you may not have a special closet you can devote to this (as I said, Miss Clara had a literal closet with prayers and notes all over the walls) but anyplace can be a war room!
Where Can You Create a War Room?
- A corner of a bedroom
- A closet
- A nice comfy chair in your living room
- A quiet place outside where you can be alone
- Your car
- Your dining room table
I think you get it…ANYPLACE where you can get alone with the Lord can be your prayer closet to pray effective war room prayers! You can use your car during a lunch break at work! You can use a blanket outside in your yard under a tree. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination!
So now that you know what a war room is, how do you use it? Well, I am going to share some war room strategies with you just like anyone doing battle needs a strategy!
Matthew 6:6
But you, when you pray, go into your inner room; and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, shall reward you.

War Room Prayer – Developing Strategies
No one goes into battle without a strategy in place. You don’t see an army just go in and “wing it” and hope for the best outcome! They have a plan!
You too need a plan, Warrior of God! Any good leader about to lead their troops into battle has a plan, a map, a goal!
And you can develop that map and plan with items you already have in your home or can easily get on Amazon or Michaels or Target!

Like Miss Clara in the movie, your war room prayers can be kept on the walls of a room, a closet, or wherever you sit to pray. I used to keep mine on the walls because my husband had created a whole room for me to be my War Room as well as my office where I did my blogging.
But we have moved since then and the only closet in my house that would work as a War Room is in my 18-year old’s room and she is not volunteering that space!
So I now keep everything for my prayer life in a binder and a journal.
So what is a War Room binder?
Well, it is literally just that, a binder! But oh, what is in it is anything but typical!
This is where you will share your most intimate moments with the Lord in prayer! (If you don’t feel comfortable with prayer, be sure to visit my post on the ACTS Prayer Method!)
You use pages in the binder to record prayer requests, people you are interceding for, answers to prayer, areas of struggle in your life, hard times, praise reports, and anything else you want! You can journal in it and make it special. If you are a crafty person and love scrapbooking you can make this binder capture special moments in time.
It is where you can write Scripture out on various topics so you can easily go to them when you’re praying and you need to stand against the enemy in spiritual warfare in Jesus’ Name!
Bible Study on How to Pray Amazing War Room Prayers
Prayer is a conversation with God. You do not need a scripted prayer or flowery words. It is your heart that He is interested in and it is your time He desires most. That is the beautiful simplicity of prayer.
Speak to Him from the heart! Speak to Him as your Heavenly Father, your Abba, and share with Him your fears and anxieties.
I spoke earlier about setting a watchman. Keeping the spiritual habit of prayer guards your heart and mind from attacks from the enemy.
When you keep up the habit of prayer, you are setting that watchman on the walls of your heart to alert you when the enemy tries to attack.
When we neglect prayer, we leave those walls unguarded and the enemy can sneak in and plunder what is ours.
Covering yourself, your spouse, your family, your home, your community in prayer helps you keep them guarded.
Stand in the gap for those who may not pray, not know how to pray, don’t believe in prayer, and cover them! Put up the good fight for them in prayer!
So as we approach these Bible verses on how to pray, maybe make them your very first entry in your War Binder and recall them whenever you feel that maybe God doesn’t hear you or that your prayers don’t make a difference, because they do!
You are a warrior! You are in God’s army! You are a daughter of Adonai Tzevaot (Lord of Heaven’s Armies) so take your place on the walls and sound the alarm for those who cannot, in the Name of Jesus!
